IRISH JUDO MASTERS SQUAD
SQUAD SELECTION POLICY FOR EUROPEAN MASTERS AND WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

✔️Eligibility:
• Current membership of the Irish Judo Association.
• Aged thirty years or older.
• Hold Irish citizenship and Irish passport.
• Engage with the Squad – sharing notice of competing or attending masters seminars/tournaments; advising Veterans Commission of results; attending Masters Squad sessions, supporting other Squad members at Masters tournaments etc.

✔️Qualification Standards:
• Have competed at the Irish Masters Open within two years prior to the applicable edition of European Masters or World Masters.
AND have medaled at a non-Irish National Open Masters championship in the current year applicable to the European Masters or World Masters whilst representing an IJA registered club, having given notice of participation to the Irish Veterans Commission.

✔️Discretionary Factors:
• Have medaled at an European Masters or a World Masters during the past five years.
• The Veterans Commission will consider entry for any player who complies with the Eligibility requirements above who may not have achieved Qualification Standards as listed due to injury or some other factor, on a case-by-case basis.

✔️Procedure:
• The player must inform the Chair and the Honorary Secretary through the email listed on the IJA website, or on the Squad’s WhatsApp, of an interest in participation at these events..
• The Chair will liaise with the IJA in regard to registration on Judobase for any relevant Masters Judo event.
• Players duly registered for participation at the European Masters and/or World Masters Championships will be announced on the Irish Masters Facebook page.

✔️Note:
I. Every member of the Masters Squad is expected to adhere to the rules and regulations of the event in which participation or attendance occurs.
II. Every member of the Masters Squad is expected, at all times, to conduct themselves in a manner befitting to one who is representing Ireland on and off the mat. This clause further applies to non-Judo activities.
III. Any non-adherence to these expectations will result in expulsion from current and future participation as a member of the Irish Masters Squad.
