Joe Behan – RIP

The Executive Committee, the Judo Office and members of the Irish Judo Association wish to extend their condolences to the Behan family on the passing of Joe Behan formerly of Garda Siochana Judo Club.  Joe was a late converter to Judo but successfully went on to achieve his Black Belt.  He trained in the Garda Club during the eighties and early nineties, before going on to represent the club in Garda Sports Societies.  Joe won a Bronze medal at the World Police & Fire Games in Memphis 1991,  a medal Joe was immensely proud of winning.

Martin Mahon Head Coach of GS Judo Club notes ‘Joe was a true gentleman, modest and unassuming just like the spirit of our sport and fellow judokas. While he drifted out of the sport on his retirement, he never forgot the fond memories of his time playing Judo.  His sudden passing will be a big loss to his family. I will always remember his upbeat and generous character. RIP Joe.’

We send our deepest sympathies to the Behan family at this time. Joe’s funeral was held last week in Marino, his funeral notice can be found here

May He Rest In Peace
