The new “Get Ireland Active!” database is a road map for raising physical activity levels and enhancing the health and wellbeing of Irish people. Increased physical activity levels in communities have positive social effects because they can encourage people to interact with their neighbours and community. Sport Ireland created this database in order to foster social cohesion, lessen isolation and exclusion, and create community networks, as physical activity can offer opportunities for social interaction.
The Healthy Ireland Framework encourages cooperative efforts in all areas that promote physical exercise in order to drive implementation of this Plan. The goal of this plan is to provide additional assistance to NGBs in their efforts to create and implement nationwide sports participation initiatives. The implementation of this Plan’s initiatives in local communities will also be significantly aided by the Local Sports Partnership (LSP) network.
