Referees play a key role in judo. Our referees facilitate competition between athletes by conducting fights in a safe, fair and professional manner while working alongside table officials to ensure that fights are kept to the highest standard for all players, coaches and spectators.

Refereeing is a challenging yet extremely rewarding volunteer role within judo. Refereeing allows those who may not compete competitively in judo, to be apart of competition days and it is also a chance to develop confidence and a deeper knowledge of the sport.

The refereeing body of the IJA recognises the contribution of all to its objectives. In line with this recognition, we will respect all and challenge discrimination based on age, disability, gender, race religion or belief, and sexual orientation, promoting equality and diversity.
